Ethical Breeding

We raise our Alaskan Malamutes in full respect of their nature and ethology, in a breeding environment that meets all their needs.

Nuna Malamutes is a kennel without bars and boxes. Our dogs live in large family groups within spacious enclosures, returning to their houses only at night, always in the company of their family members. During the day, the enclosures are left open to allow interaction among all members of the pack and the creation of the hierarchical system that regulates the sociality of primitive dogs.

This system is undoubtedly demanding, requiring continuous monitoring of the pack, but it allows us to observe and select dogs with exceptional character, capable of facing everything that awaits them outside the kennel with confidence.

Our females enjoy long rest periods between litters, during which they fully participate in our sleddog team's activities, representing not only the future as mothers but also the beating heart of the team. At the end of their breeding careers, all dogs, males and females, remain at the kennel with us, enjoying a well-deserved retirement and continuing to engage in sports activities as long as they desire.

Our Philosophy

Working dogs still represent the perfect companions for families who love sports and outdoor activities, and more. Contrary to what one might think, welcoming an active and energetic dog like an Alaskan Malamute, Siberian Husky, or Canadian Eskimo Dog into your life doesn't necessarily mean dealing with an inexhaustible dog incapable of enjoying the tranquility of family life.

On the contrary, primitive working dogs are naturally predisposed to collaborate with humans, forming a strong and indissoluble bond. This relationship, when well-established, creates in the dog the desire to actively and constructively participate in the daily activities of the family, of which it insists on being an integral member.

This is also the main reason why we decided to base our breeding program on working lines. Dogs still selected today for specific tasks are generally more well-behaved, cooperative, and well-disposed towards humans and other dogs. When properly stimulated, they can be easily trained and successfully integrated into society, respecting its rules.

Puppies

Our Alaskan Malamute puppies are selected to be the best companions for their future families.

The selection of our puppies is based on careful and tireless work that begins from the first days of their parents' lives. All Nuna Malamute dogs are part of our pack from a very young age. This allows us to monitor every phase of their physical and psychological growth, ensuring we choose healthy, balanced, and good-natured dogs as parents.

All our breeding dogs are tested and free from major breed diseases, including Hip and Elbow Dysplasia, Hereditary Eye Diseases, and Alaskan Malamute Polyneuropathy. Any dog showing clinical signs of these important diseases or deemed unsuitable for breeding for various reasons is immediately excluded from the breeding program. Visitors to the kennel will undoubtedly encounter some of these dogs, who, even after being excluded from breeding, remain with us, finding their place in the pack and playing various, sometimes crucial, roles within the kennel.

The puppies are born in the house with us, where they stay with their mother for the first four weeks of their lives. After this delicate period, and when the mother feels ready, they gradually start their social life in the kennel, where they have the opportunity to meet adults with different characters and temperaments.

The goal is to offer the puppies the widest range of experiences possible, to form young dogs capable of responding appropriately to all the stimuli that will soon be part of their lives once they move to their new families.
